Gazi University (GU) Rector Prof. Dr. Uğur Ünal and a delegation accompanying him, paid a courtesy visit to Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç on Wednesday, 15 January 2025 at 10:30 a.m. Present during the visit were EMU Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe, Prof. Dr. Salih Katırcıoğlu, Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu and Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren, Vice Rector of the Gazi University Prof. Dr. Serhat Karyeyen, Rector Consultant Prof. Dr. Togay Seçkin Birbudak, and the Direcor of the Gazi University Distance Education Application and Research Center Prof. Dr. Mutlu Tahsin Üstündağ.
During the visit, Prof. Dr. Ünal noted that their visit to EMU was the first official visit he had since assuming the office at Gazi University. Expressing his contentment for being at EMU, Prof. Dr. Ünal emphasized that institutions have much to learn from and support each other. Moreover, he noted that well-established universities like EMU and Gazi University would always stand by one another. Highlighting that EMU is the oldest university in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Prof. Dr. Ünal shared that their visit would focus on discussions in many areas, particularly informatics and technology. Prof. Dr. Önal conveyed his hope for productive meetings and wished both universities success in their joint initiatives.
Wishing success to Prof. Dr. Ünal who has recently taken the Rector duty at GU, Prof. Dr. Kılıç also stated their pleasure with the said visit. Providing extensive information on EMU, Prof. Dr. Kılıç stated that the visit would focus on exploring potential collaboration opportunities between the two educational institutions. Highlighting his belief that their efforts would greatly benefit higher education, Prof. Dr. Kılıç underscored the aim of creating a strategic roadmap for cooperation by the conclusion of the visit.
At the end of the visit, Prof. Dr. Kılıç presented a traditional Cypriot Lefkara work panel to Prof. Dr. Ünal. On the other hand, Prof. Dr. Ünal presented Prof. Dr. Kılıç souvenirs unique to Gazi University.
