The aim of the Ph.D. program in Surgical Nursing is to ensure that students acquire the necessary knowledge and competencies in their field, develop the ability to conduct independent research in line with ethical values, analyze and interpret scientific findings and events from a broad perspective, create original syntheses, develop innovative methods at a universal level, or produce new knowledge. Graduates of the program are awarded the title of "Doctor of Science." Nurses who complete this program can work as doctoral-level clinical nurses, clinical supervisors, or nurse managers in hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health, as well as in university and private hospitals. They may also be employed as faculty members in academic units within Nursing Faculties-Nursing Schools, Health Sciences Faculties-Nursing Departments, specifically in the Department of Surgical Nursing. Additionally, graduates have job opportunities in various national and international scientific research institutions and organizations. To graduate from the Ph.D. program in Surgical Nursing, students must complete a total of 21 credits (equivalent to 240 ECTS credits). This includes successfully completing at least seven courses, a seminar course, passing the doctoral qualifying exam, and successfully completing the doctoral dissertation.
Admission Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Nursing and a Master's degree in any Nursing field. Students admitted from fields other than Surgical Nursing are required to take preparatory science courses.
- A minimum ALES-SAY score of 55 (for Turkish citizens).
- Proof of English proficiency:
- TOEFL (IBT): 72
- PTE-A: 55
- YDS/ÜDS/KPDS/YÖKDİL: 60
- EMU English Proficiency Exam: 70
- Successful performance in a written and/or oral scientific exam, or a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Successful performance in a written and/or oral scientific exam, or a minimum graduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Compliance with the conditions stipulated by the Eastern Mediterranean University Institute of Graduate Studies and Research, as well as the Graduate Programs Registration and Admission Regulations.
Research Interests
The Ph.D. Program in Surgical Nursing encompasses research areas including Perioperative Nursing, Operating Room Nursing, Trauma and Emergency Surgical Nursing, Surgical Oncology Nursing, Surgical Intensive Care Nursing, Transplantation Nursing, Special Topics in Surgical Nursing, Pain Management, Patient Safety, and Patient Education.
