Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Cancer Screening Polyclinic operating under the roof of EMU Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty, Clinical Application and Research Center commenced providing services on 4th of February – World Cancer Awareness Day.

The polyclinic to be led by Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty academic staff member Dr. Ayşe Atasoylu will offer screenings, check-ups and referrals. Moreover, the polyclinic aims to educate the public towards cancer screenings and to provide evidence-based recommendations based on age and other risk factors.

The first step in evidence-based cancer screenings is a thorough examination of person’s medical background, their family history and other risk factors. The next step is physical examination to be carried in accordance with the information gathered from the patient and, cancer screenings appropriate for the person are recommended. Evidence-based cancer screenings involve various tests, including skin examinations, mammograms, breast ultrasounds, Pap smears, HPV tests, colonoscopies, as well as stool and blood tests. After reviewing all evaluations and screening results, appropriate plans are developed, and personalized recommendations are given. Cancer is a disease that can be prevented and successfully treated if detected early.
