Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Architecture, Housing Education Research and Advisory Center (HERA-C) aims to share the university’s expertise and know-how regarding housing with all those involved in the housing sector. The center believes that the housing phenomenon should be discussed in a multi-dimensional manner including its physical, social, economic, technological, cultural and legal dimensions.
Parallel to their ‘education - research”, ‘research – publication’, ‘application- consultation’ and ‘collaboration’ activities, the center is continuing their “Housing Talks’” as part of their 4th Term activities.
In line with their aims and objectives, HERA-C carried out the activity ‘Housing Talks’ on Thursday, the 4th of May 2017 at 15:00. The activity took place at Alper Özdural Conference Hall located in the Faculty of Architecture. Feriha Altıok was the guest speaker at the event which focused on the description of venue and residence via poetry. Altıok, who holds important positions in both architecture and literature, gained the opportunity to discuss and share her poems on housing as well as her reasons for starting to write poems, her interoperations and experiences. After talking about her poetry book Altıok went on to read some of her poems from the book. Altıok mentioned how she initially believed that architecture wasn’t for her but that venues were, continuing to point out that she included venues in all of her poetry books. To conclude, Altıok highlighted the importance of poetry in her life, stating that she is very happy to be sharing her emotions with EMU.
EMU HERA-C Chair, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kağan Günçe noted that the “City and Architecture III” activity organized by HERA-C and moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Afet Çeliker Coşkun was very productive indicating that the Center will continue to organize activities as such.
