The international “Futsal Cup of Nation” organized by Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Sports Affairs Directorate commenced with an opening ceremony on Monday, 23 May 2022 at 17:00 at Lala Mustafa Paşa Sports Complex.
EMU Vice Rector for Social and Cultural Affairs Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu and Sports Affairs Director Cemal Konnolu attended the ceremony. Speaking at the opening of the tournament where 24 different countries were represented, Prof. Dr. İşçioğlu wished success to all teams.
Group Matches were played
Day 1 team matches took place following the opening speeches. In Group A, Palestine and Gambia ended their game with an even score of 2-2, on the other hand, Lebanon won against Egypt with a score of 3-0 and, Botswana defeated Kazakhstan with a score of 6-1. In Group B matches, Nigeria defeated Mozambique with a score of 5-1 and, Uganda won the match which was played with Tajikistan with a score of 3-2. Moreover, Iran beat Eritrea hands down with a score of 10-0. In Group C, Turkey played against Pakistan and won the game with a score of 3-0. Jordan and Yemen faced off in the last match of the first day. Yemen won the match with a score of 4-2.
Day 2 matches began with Libya and Morocco in Group C. Libya won the competitive game against Morocco 1-0. In Group D, Swaziland defeated Mali with a score of 3-1. On the other hand, TRNC won the game played against Kenya, 4-0. Another Group D game was played between Sudan and Syria. Sudan won the game with a score of 4-0. In Group A, Botswana defeated Lebanon with a score of 2-1, Palestine defeated Egypt 5-1 and Gambia defeated Kazakhstan 2-0. In Group B, Uganda won the matched played against Eritrea with a score of 4-1.
Final and Award Ceremony on 6 June
In the tournament, in which six teams each take part in four groups, the top two teams in their groups will advance to the quarter-finals. The champion will be determined after the final matches, which will be held in the elimination method. EMU international “Futsal Cup of Nation” tournament final round and award ceremony will be held on Monday, 6 June 2022 at Lala Mustafa Kemal Paşa Sports Complex.
