Organised by Eastern Mediterranean University Tourism Faculty in collaboration with Tourism Club, 15th Tourism Days took place on 24 April 2014. The 2-day event will give the students a chance to get to know different cultures.
EMU Tourism Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Mehmet Altınay who delivered the opening speech stated that EMU has students from 91 different countries and, more specificly, students from 28 countries receive education in EMU Tourism Faculty. Stating the importance of spreading educational activities outside the classroom environment, Prof. Dr. Altınay put forth that through various activities, the Faculty endeavors to create a multi-cultural environment for students and, at the same time, provide students with sectoral experience. Prof. Dr. Altınay thanked everyone who took part in the organisation of the event. Following Prof. Dr. Altınay, EMU Tourism Faculty Vice Dean Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç stated that 250 students representing 28 different countries took part the organisation of the 15th Tourism Days. Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç also put forth that through organisations as such, students have the opportunity of putting theory into practice and, at the same time, getting involved in cultural exchange. Prof. Dr. Kılıç added that the Faculty has contributed to the tourism sector by having graduated qualified workforce consisting of 4000 graduates.
The first day of the event entitled “Cultural Day” took place at the front garden of EMU Tourism Faculty where students from different cultures had a chance to promote their own cultures through traditional clothes, dances and ethnic food. DJ shows, live music performances, and cultural dances of various student groups were the activities enriching the event. Additionally, students won prizes in draws taking place within the framework of the Tourism Days.
15th EMU Tourism Days will end with the traditional tourism picnic and environment day events taking place at EMU Beach Club on 25 April 2014.
