Exercise and Sport Sciences Master's Program (Turkish with Thesis) ** (M.S., 1 - 2 Years)

Today, Exercise and Sports Sciences have become a significant sector for performance sports and healthy living. Interest in graduate education programs in this field is increasingly growing in developed countries. The rapid advancements in Sports Sciences necessitate that professionals in this area become more equipped.

There is a rising demand for productive and research-oriented experts who can respond to the changing needs of society, contribute to public health, and support the development of athletes. The Exercise and Sports Sciences Master's Program has been designed to address these needs and aims to train qualified graduates.

The program covers the physiological, anatomical, and biomechanical foundations of sports movements, focusing on training performance applications, the role of sports in child development, and enhancing public health through sports. The goal of the program is to cultivate expert sports scientists who can effectively apply the scientific principles of sports in practice and approach problems in a solution-oriented manner.

Graduates of this program will possess the ability to make effective and scientific decisions in both the public and private sectors. They will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide higher quality services in the sports field and improve public health.

Admission Requirements

To be accepted into the Master's Program in Exercise and Sports Sciences, candidates must meet the following criteria set by the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU):

  1. Graduation from a higher education institution that offers at least a four-year undergraduate degree, either domestically or internationally.
  2. Submission of an official transcript showing the courses taken during the undergraduate program.
  3. A minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is expected in undergraduate education.
  4. Provision of a notarized photocopy of the graduation diploma.
  5. Submission of two reference letters demonstrating the candidate's academic qualifications.
  6. For candidates holding Turkish citizenship, a minimum score of 55 in the ALES exam in the equal weight category is required.

Important Note: Candidates who do not graduate from a program in Exercise and Sports Sciences or an equivalent field must successfully complete specific foundational courses (SPRB202 Training Knowledge, SPRB301 Physical Fitness Tests in Sports, FZTR221 Introduction to Kinesiology, and FZTR225 Sports Physiology) as scientific preparatory courses in order to succeed in the program.

Research Interests

The master's program in the Department of Exercise and Sports Sciences aims to train specialized sports scientists who can enhance the performance of elite athletes and promote healthier living through exercise based on scientific foundations. The program incorporates physical, psychological, social, environmental, and societal approaches to sports practices. To achieve this goal, it draws on fields such as kinesiology, exercise science, sports physiology, exercise biochemistry, educational sciences, sports management, and health sciences. This enables graduates in sports sciences to specialize in their desired field, increasing their chances of pursuing their careers. The graduates of this program will be capable of making more efficient, effective, and scientific decisions in both public and private sectors. Furthermore, they will significantly contribute to improving the quality of services offered by the institutions they work for.
